“It has been more than two decades since I was witnessed for the first time of a dipper shot through a waterfall,” says photographer Konrad Wothe. “The small passerin bird flew back and forth to a nest that was safely tucked away behind a dense curtain of water. Of course I tried to catch the dipper on film, but my analogue camera equipment did not suggest that this group of a second in sharp focus was freezing.”
Twenty years later and armed with a faster camera, Wothe conquered the magical moment that a white-throatedipper crashed through a waterfall. The image (shown below) deserved top honors on the 2025 GDT (German Society for Nature Photography) Nature photographer of the year Prices.
