A potential carjacker who was unable to get away with the vehicle because he did not know how to serve the transmission of BMW, received a 10 -year prison sentence on Friday. Marcus McNeal, 21, argued guilty of armed robbery, has a stolen motor vehicle and exacerbated illegal use of a weapon, according to the court reports.
The owner of the BMW parked on November 4, 2023 in the 9900 block of South May and was soon confronted with McNeal, who aimed a gun on him while wearing a ski mask and gloves, said public prosecutors in an archiving. He reportedly threatened to shoot the 65-year-old Ohio-man if he did not surrender the car keys.
McNeal almost immediately got into trouble. He “made different attempts to switch the equipment in Drive and could not have been pressed because of a button that also had to be pressed to shift with gear,” the application said. So he gave up and ran away.
But he didn’t go far. While the police responded to the hijacking of the hijacking, a 65-year-old Californian man marked them. He told them that he was in the 10000 block of Zuid -Maei then a man who wore a ski mask tangled the window of his Chevy -Traverse with a gun and ordered him to come out.
He indicated and the hijack drove away by car after a woman jumped into the passenger chair.
The police found the Chevy and coordinated with Onstar to switch off the engine remotely. They arrested McNeal after the vehicle had been rolled to a standstill. He had a gun and also had the most important FOB of the BMW in his pocket, said civil servants.
Judge Timothy Joyce dealt with the cases and convicted McNeal for armed robbery for up to 10 years, six years before possessing a stolen vehicle and a year for possession of weapons.
McNeal will have to serve five years before he is eligible for release. He receives credit for 515 days in prison.
