On April 6, 2024, barely two months after he left prison for robbing a woman in her Boystown apartment building, Coleman attacked and tried a man in an alley behind the 3500 block of North Fremont to Carjack. That is less than 200 meters from the district police officer of the Town Hall (19th), a detail that Coleman should know, because he has been guided at least five times in that station in handcuffs.
Justice officers said that a 53-year-old man drove into the alley to park behind his apartment building, but another vehicle blocked his path. Coleman, 29, and an accomplice approached the victim’s car and opened his director leaders, according to a arrest report in Chicago. Both men appeared just when a Chicago police were over, as they often do, because there is a police station across the street. The police arrested Coleman.
Legal reports show that Coleman decided to resolve the case by guilty of hijacking vehicles and worsened battery in a public place. Judge Aleksandra Gillespie gave him 12 years for carjacking and a simultaneous five years for the battery charge. His time will be reduced by 50% for good behavior.
At the time of the hijacking, Coleman had just finished serving half a five-year prison sentence that he received for robbing a 24-year-old woman in August 2021. She told the police that Coleman followed her to her building in the 400 block of West Aldine, followed her on the lift and said he was going to the third floor.
He dived to her when the doors closed and demanded the woman’s wallet. She handed her phone, look and bag. Coleman followed the woman when she left the fifth floor and told her that he would hurt her when she shouted, prosecutors claimed. The woman ran off a stairwell and out of the front door, where she told passers -by about the robbery.
Cops arrested Coleman on the Addison Red Line Station after following GPS details of the woman’s phone. He had the woman’s phone, the watch, ID and two credit cards with the name of the woman in his pants, the prosecutors said. Video from the woman’s lobby let Coleman follow her and fled a few minutes later.
Only a few days before the robbery, Coleman was arrested after a 31-year-old woman told the police that he was following her to her building in the 600 block of West Stratford and started beating her, a CPD spokesperson told CWBCHicago. Poleman arrested Coleman short time later. He was accused of a crime battery and then walked four hours later from the 19th district police office at a characteristic bond. The prosecutors dropped the case after Coleman was sentenced to the prison for the theft of 2021, according to the court reports.
In March 2016, a 22-year-old woman Coleman accused her phone at the Belmont Red Line Station. He received a 12-day sentence for theft of crimes.
In September 2015, a Schaumburg man walked into the town hall’s police station to report that someone had just thrown a tablet out of his hand and the perpetrator might have encountered a nearby church. Officers found Coleman on the church with the victim’s tablet in his hand, according to a police report. The police said Coleman claimed that the tablet had found in the grass after someone with the name “Maleek” had stolen it.
Coleman was accused of theft of lost or failed property, but the charges were withdrawn when the victim did not appear before the court.
In January 2016, Coleman received postponed persecution after he was accused of stealing hats, shorts, pants and a nightdress from Macy’s in Old Orchard. Three days later he was arrested after a supermarket in the south walking accused him of stealing a ski pat. That case was withdrawn when the store did not appear in court.
