A popular streaming platform just agreed to pay customers millions of dollars in a privacy settlement.
Streaming service Tubi will pay $19.99 million following allegations that the company shared people’s private data without consent.
The terms of the settlement applies to people who used Tubi between June 23, 2021 and August 26, 2024.
Tubi is accused of violating the Video Privacy Protection Act when sharing data with advertisers and has not admitted to any wrongdoing in the settlement.
The exact amount users will get from the settlement is unknown and depends on how many people sign up to receive their share.
The deadline for inclusion in the settlement is quickly approaching: October 31, 2024. A final approval hearing on the settlement will take place in early December.
Tubi users can file a claim hereusing the email address that gave them access to Tubi.
Tubi was launched in 2014 and is based in San Francisco. The service has more than 250 channels with programs and films in various genres.
