Two men have been charged with a fatal highways, including someone who was pretial release. Prosecutors said the police identified the shooter via Instagram videos that he placed over the murder within a few minutes after the shooting.
Tyjon Bush, 22, was shot and killed when on July 11, 2024 he rode in the backseat of a car on the incoming Dan Ryan Expressway near 75th Street.
Shields drove the Chrysler at the time of the shooting, said public prosecutors, stating video certificate. He was at the time of the murder of pretrial release for a burglary store.
Tyler Perkins, 25, is accused of being the shooter who killed Bush. Illinois State Police researchers are said to have found Instagram videos that showed him that he was holding a draco-style attack gun in a Chrysler 300 with shields less than 10 minutes after the shooting. The gun uses ammunition that is identical to the species found in the Schietscène, according to ISP.
Researchers also found an Instagram reel in which Perkins said that the shooting was retribution because Bush and another man in Bush’s car stable a gun the night before, according to a CPD report. In another video, Perkins reportedly laughed after he mentioned that Bush was dead.
Three days after a judge signed an arrest warrant for Perkins, researchers who guarded his Instagram page saw a new video in which he showed his new outfit while standing in a hotel room in Houston, the CPD report said. Researchers established in Chicago arranged an FBI-Taskforce in Houston to arrest him there.
Perkins and Shields are both accused of murder in the first degree. Judge James Costello held Shields and judge Mary Marubio held Perkins.
Perkins is the 36th person accused of photographing, killing or trying to shoot someone in Chicago last year or to kill during a pretial release of crime. Things include 52 victims, of whom 15 died.
The series ‘Not terrible’
This report continues our reporting of persons accused of killing, shooting or trying to kill or shoot at pretrial release for a crime accusation. CWBCHICAGO started our series of reports in November 2019 after Cook County Chief Judge Timothy Evans publicly mentioned“We have not had any terrible incidents” under the initiative of the Bond Reform of the Court.
The actual number of murders and shootings committed by people who are awaiting the trial for accusations of crimes is undoubtedly much higher than the number seen here. Since 2017, CPD has had less than 5% of non-fatale shootings and 33% of the murders.
