CHICAGO – Two men are accused of theft, possibly because they took a break from their outing to grab some McDonald’s on the victim’s credit card.

Last Sunday evening, Nov. 17, a 28-year-old man told police that two people pinned him against a fence at 31st Street and King Drive while a third searched his pockets and took his wallet, according to a Chicago police report.

While the victim was speaking with officers, he received an email notification that one of his stolen credit cards was being used at a McDonald’s. Knowing there was a “golden archway” at the corner of 35th and Indiana, officers headed that way to see if they could find suspects, the report said.

When they stopped, officers saw three people boarding a CTA bus who matched the victim’s descriptions, according to the report. Police said they stopped the bus and the three people fled through the back door. All three were arrested nearby.

Justin Bradley and Marshawn Sampson, both 18 years old, are charged with theft.

In an arrest warrant, prosecutors said Bradley had a number of the victim’s credit cards when police arrested him.

However, Judge Deidre Dyer rejected the detention request. She opted to send the men home on ankle monitors while they fight the allegations.

CWBChicago was founded in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had become discouraged by the inaccurate information presented during local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has since expanded to Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown and other North Side areas. But our mission remains unchanged: to provide original public safety reporting with better context and more detail than mainstream media. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
