BMW may have launched the fourth generation X3 Central format SUV range in Australia exclusively with electrified petrol epowerrains, but it has not excluded to introduce a diesel option in the line.
Last year the range consisted of the Turbo-Petrol 48V Mild-hybrid X3 20 xDrive and M50 xDrive, but now the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) has become 30th xDrive member of the line-up.
However, there are power lines available abroad, including a new inline-zes mild-hybrid turbo diesel, and according to BMW X Series-product and price manager Daniel Silverwood they are not excluded for a local launch.

“We didn’t close the door on diesel,” said Mr. Silverwood.
“Towards the end of the life cycle of the outgoing [X3]The percentage that was sold in Diesel was reduced.
“That said, however, there can still be a role; That is something we are currently assessing. “
In the previous generation, the X3 was offered locally with two turbo-diesel drivers-the xDrive20d with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel that produces 140 kW and 400 Nm, as well as the xDrive30d with a 3.0-liter inline-six-turbo-turbo that produces 195 kW and 620nm.
Although BMW Australia has introduced a wide range of new electric vehicles (EVs) in recent years, it has also introduced the new 540D xDrive, which is driven by the same 3.0-liter Inline-Six Turbo-Diesel Mild-hybrid engine offered in other markets.
BMW also continues to offer diesel drive lines in the X5, X6 and X7 SUVs in Australia.
The company has said earlier that it is planning to offer Diesel drivers in its larger SUV -Line -up and priority to EV options in its smaller models.
In 2024, a total of 369,842 diesel driven passenger, SUV and light commercial vehicles were sold in Australia. This fell by 2.5 percent on an annual basis.
In contrast to a total of 528,978 cars with gasoline (10.1 percent), 91,292 EVs (an increase of 4.7 percent), 172,696 hybrid cars (an increase of 76 percent) and 23,163 PHEVs (100.2 percent) were sold during the same period.
