The BYD Atto 3 was only recently updated in Australia, but the electric SUV will soon receive a more extensive facelift in China.
Car news China reports that an updated Atto 3 – sold in China as the Yuan Plus – has appeared in a Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) filing.
A new front bumper is immediately recognizable, with more aggressive side air skirts that better match those of the BYD Seal sedan.

The publication also mentioned the small camera that sits above the front license plate holder, which is likely to enhance the Atto 3’s advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Last year, the automotive department of drone specialist DJI announced that it would supply ADAS equipment to BYD.
The changes continue at the rear, which also gets a more aggressive look on the lower part of the bumper.
There’s also a new stepped rear spoiler with two split brake lights at the top, instead of the more conventional strip on the current model.
There are also new wheels all around, moving to five spokes instead of the five double spokes of the current car.
The patterned C/D pillar trim has also been replaced by a more conventional body-coloured insert.
No changes have been made under the skin, with the Atto 3 still powered by a front-mounted electric motor producing 150kW and 310Nm.
However, BYD in China is yet to announce when it will launch the facelifted Yuan Plus Car news China speculates that it will go on sale in the second quarter of 2025. It’s unclear when it will be released in Australia.
Last week, BYD Australia announced changes to the Atto 3 series, replacing the current entry-level Standard Range variant with a new Essential grade.
Priced from $39,990 before on-road costs, it’s $4509 cheaper than the variant it replaces, but loses out on features such as a panoramic sunroof, power tailgate, roof rails, heated front seats, music rhythm function for ambient lighting and a wireless phone charger.
The 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen and eight-speaker Dirac sound system have also been replaced by a 12.8-inch screen and six-speaker system, while the 18-inch alloy wheels have been reduced to 17 inches.
The introduction of the new Essential follows a 2024 update that saw the Atto 3 gain black D-pillar and window trim, along with a larger 15.6-inch touchscreen, an available black/blue interior and Continental tires.
The BYD Atto 3 was the fifth best-selling electric vehicle (EV) in Australia in 2024, after being displaced for the first time by its Seal stablemate.
