2025 Geely EX5: Model Y -Rival arriving in Australia, launch on hands

China Yellowy is a step closer to the launch in Australia, with the first party of Ex5 Electric SUVs that in particular arrive in Australia.

The first allocation is rolling off ships in Ports in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth this week before the model is officially for sale in March.

Pre-orders have already been opened for the EX5, a medium-sized electric SUV to compete with the best-selling Tesla model Y.

It is the first vehicle of the namesake of Geely under a new operation supported by the factory, about a decade after the brand was last seen here.

Australian prices still have to be confirmed for the EX5, although a spokesperson for GEYY Australia indicated that the local division of the Chinese brand “strives for $ 49,000- $ 55,000”.

The Geely EX5 measures 4615 mm long and 1901 mm wide with a wheelbase of 2750 mm, is almost identical in length for a Toyota RAV4, but it is wider and has a longer wheelbase.

The EX5 is launched in Australia with two available equipment levels, but only one powertrain: a 160 kW/320 Nm for mounted electric motor connected to a battery of 60.2 kWh lithium -iron phosphate (LFP).

The claimed range on the WLTP cycle is assessed up to 430 km for the basic model on smaller 18-inch wheels (410 km for the High-Spec inspire 19S), with combined energy consumption quoted on 15.8-16.6 kWh/100 km.

Standard equipment highlights of the basic model include leather upholstery with heated and powerful adjustable front seats, LED lighting all around, a 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.2-inch instrument cluster display.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are missing from the launch, but are added with an over-the-air software update.

The Vlaggenschip Inspire adds a panoramic sunroof, a 13.4-inch head-up display, premium audio with 16 speakers, ventilated front seats and a lounge chair for the front passenger that can be left behind with a leg rest.

In addition to the Tesla model Y, other important rivals for Geely’s Electric SUV de BYD Sealion 7, Leap engine C10, Deepal S07 and Xpeng G6 include.
