The BYD Shark 6 may first have swam to Australia, but it is about to make some competition from another popular Chinese brand.

Pictures of the local specification 2025 GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV have leaked and they seem to have been removed from the public website of the GWM Australia.

Australian media had the opportunity to control this vehicle in September 2024, but it was a vehicle with the left hand with the appearance of the Turbo Charged V6-driven performance edition that was not sold here.

At the time, the Cannon Alpha PHEV was tipped for a local launch late in the first quarter or early in the second quarter of 2025.

The leaked images reveal the Cannon Alpha PHEV without the visual improvements of the left vehicle with the left drive, and is very similar to the diesel and hybrid Cannon Alpha models that are already being sold here.

However, there seems to be a choice of two looks: one with a black grille, bathing and wheels; And one with the same appearance as the existing ultra and ultrahybrid, complete with a rack-loaded grid.

Available colors include marble white, storm gray, onyx silver, crystal black and moon red.

The Cannon Alpha PHEV fits a turbo compressor 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 180 kW power and 380 Nm torque with a 120 kW/400 Nm electric motor with an electrical system of 300 kW and 750 Nm.

There is a 37.1 kWh Ternaire lithium battery and a claimed only-electric WLTC series up to 110 km and claimed fuel consumption of 1.7 l/100 km.

GWM’s plug-in ute has four-wheel drive and an automatic transmission with nine gears.

In contrast to the shark, which has a baked drag capacity of 2500 kg, GWM says that the Cannon Alpha PHEV is being assessed to drag the Benchmark 3500KG.

Local prices and specifications still have to be announced, but available off-road equipment in China includes locking front, rear and middle differences, multiple terrain modes and selection of high and low distance.

The PHEV UTE segment is warmed up. The BYD shark was the first to launch here, with deliveries that start in January, while the Ford Ranger PHEV appears halfway through the year and the GWM will match a 3500 kg-baked trawl.

The Cannon Alpha is here GWM’s second PHEV. This quarter is the GWM Haval H6 GT PHEV, an electrified version of the medium -sized Coupe SUV from the brand.
