2025 Toyota LandCruiser Prado payload, GVM figures confirmed

The Toyota Landcruiser Prado 250 series arrives in Australian dealerships, and now critical figures have been revealed for those looking to tow and tour in the all-new large off-road SUV.

While Toyota has so far only specified a braked towing capacity of 3,500kg – a significant improvement over its predecessor’s 3,000kg – it has now released figures for curb weight, gross vehicle mass (GVM) and gross combination mass (GCM) .

It’s good news for those looking to upgrade from their old Prado to the new model, which is closely related to the 300 series and boosts all these figures compared to the 150 series it replaces.

The new Prado’s curb weight has increased by around 150kg across the board, and the GVM has increased equally, ranging from 3100kg for five-seater variants (GX and Altitude), and up to 3200kg for the flagship Kakadu.

Later versions of the previous generation Prado had a GVM of 2990kg.

Depending on the variant, the payload range is between 580kg and 615kg, an important figure to keep in mind when choosing accessories and loading up a family’s gear before heading out on a hike or road trip.

The Prado’s GCM (the maximum permitted weight for your vehicle and trailer combined) has also increased, in line with the increased towing capacity. The 250 series has a GCM of 6600 kg across the board, compared to 5990 kg.

Although the new Prado can theoretically tow up to 3500kg, it cannot do this if the SUV and its contents weigh more than 3100kg, otherwise it will exceed its GCM of 6600kg.

And then we haven’t even taken into account the weight of the tow bar. It is generally accepted that this amounts to 10 percent of the weight of your trailer, caravan, boat or horse float.
