The Kia Stonic Maybe almost eight years old, but the Korean brand still squeezes some life from the popular rival Mazda CX-3.

Kia has been busy making existing models to give them versions of the new company vision, with the Picanto Micro Hatch, the Sportage and Sorento SUVs and the Carnival People Mover all renewed to look as new generation of models such as the new K4-Sedan and the EV5 and EV9 electrical SUVs.

The Stonic wears the new face, with vertical headlights with Blocky Internals.

Although we cannot make this completely under the camouflage, the facelifted Stonzie is also expected to have a restyled for bumper, grille and potentially a light beam over the top of the grid.

Inside, the tail lights are very similar to those of the electric EV5 medium -sized SUV.

It is unclear which other changes will be made to the Stonic, although we expect a renewed interior with a larger infotainment touchscreen and Kia’s latest instrument cluster arrangements.

The Stonic remains an important model for Kia, not only in Australia, but also in Europe. It is also sold as the KX1 in China, although it was stopped in the Kia’s Korean home market in 2020.

The Stonic arrived here in 2021, after debuting in Europe in 2017. It finally fulfilled the closely related Rio Hatchback, which was retired in 2023.

The naturally extracted 1.4-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that had opened the range was dropped in 2024, with the Stonic from now on only offering a turbo engine of 1.0-liter three-pot. Australia, however, continued to miss the 48V mild-hybrid system that is offered in Europe with this engine.

Last year the Stonic was given the sixth best -selling Kia in Australia with 6189 examples, a decrease of 11.4 percent on the previous year.

It was also the fifth best-selling vehicle in its segment, behind the dominant Mazda CX-3 as well as the Suzuki Jimny, Toyota Yaris Cross and Hyundai location.

Last week Kia has an example of a new electric SUV concept at entry level called the EV2, an example of a Slovakic-built production model that will serve as an electric alternative to the Stonic in Europe. However, it is unlikely that it will come here.
