The 2026 Toyota Hilux officially went on sale on December 9, 2025 with an expanded range featuring an updated exterior, new cabin design and now just one diesel powertrain.
The expanded lineup sees the return of the range-topping Rogue and Rugged X models, although a GR Sport version (or better) for the Ford Ranger Raptor has not yet been confirmed.
The new HiLux uses the same ladder frame chassis as before – not the newer TNGA-F platform used on the LandCruiser Prado and LandCruiser 300 series – giving it similar dimensions to its predecessor.

The exterior was designed by Toyota Design Australia and the redesigned front and rear features the same doors and cabin as before, with slimmer LED headlights in the nose, a new grille and sharper lines.
At the rear, there are new taillights and a new integrated step behind the rear wheel on pick-up variants. Other cosmetic changes include fresh colors and wheel patterns.
The interior has also been completely redesigned, with new technology and redesigned seats.
The standard engine is the carryover 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel, which partly justifies the higher entry price as the previous 2.4-litre diesel and 2.7-litre petrol have both been dropped.
A manual gearbox remains available in some model grades, making it one of a dwindling number of utes offered in Australia with three pedals.
The base WorkMate gains more standard safety equipment, including blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, as well as LED headlights, while all HiLuxes are upgraded to a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Prices
Toyota Australia has so far only announced prices for the HiLux diesel across five model classes in cab/chassis and crew cab body styles, starting with the WorkMate ahead of the SR, SR5, Rogue and – returning after its 2022 introduction – the Rugged
The 2026 HiLux starts at $33,990, before on-road costs, for the WorkMate 4×2 manual transmission – up from the previous $27,730, before on-road starts, for the previous 2.7-litre petrol version.
The cheapest diesel used to be the 2.4-litre, which in cheapest WorkMate Hi-Rider guise started at $32,790 before on-road costs.
At the high end, the Rogue dual-cab and Rugged
No GR Sport has yet been announced to rival the hero Ford Ranger Raptor, but considering GR was one of five core brands within the Toyota group announced in October 2025 – with Daihatsu (not sold here), Century, Lexus and the Toyota brand itself – it’s almost certain it will join the line-up.

Powertrains and efficiency
All 2026 HiLuxes feature a 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel – with an unchanged output of 150kW/500Nm for the automatic and 150kW/420Nm for the manual versions – with a choice of 4×2 or 4×4.
WorkMate, SR and SR5 models also offer a six-speed manual transmission, while SR models and above with automatic transmission come standard with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology.
The 2.7-litre petrol and 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engines have been dropped, leaving the 2.8-litre as the only powertrain offered at launch, with electric (EV) and hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) versions confirmed for Australia.
The HiLux EV is expected to arrive on the scene between January and March 2026, while the FCEV – which runs on hydrogen like the Toyota Mirai sedan – will arrive sometime in 2028.

Maintenance and warranty
The Toyota HiLux is backed by Toyota’s five-year unlimited mileage warranty, which covers all parts, panels and accessories manufactured by Toyota.
The engine and drivetrain warranty can be extended for a further two years, provided the vehicle is maintained as scheduled and the car is backed by seven years of emergency back-up.
Previous HiLux service prices were between $245 and $290 per visit for the first six visits, covering three years or 60,000km.
Servicing is still required every six months or 10,000km, which is considerably shorter than the usual 12-month/15,000km intervals offered by most rivals.
Safety
The Toyota HiLux has a five-star rating from ANCAP, based on testing carried out in 2025. This applies to all variants except the Rugged X, which has no rating.
It received an adult occupant protection score of 84 percent, a child occupant protection score of 89 percent, a vulnerable road user protection score of 82 percent and a safety assistance score of 82 percent.

Colors and options
The 2026 Toyota HiLux is offered as standard in Glacier White – the only exterior color that doesn’t come with an additional $675 ‘Premium’ paint finish – with stunning Silver, Eclipse Black and new-for-2026 Ash Slate also available across all variants.
HiLux SR5 and above are also available in Frosted White, Feverish Red and another new colour, Sunglow.
Black interior trim is standard in all models with the exception of the “Mineral” trim in the Rogue and Rugged
On SR5 and above, an optional $2500 Premium Interior Package adds black leather upholstery, an eight-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support and a nine-speaker JBL audio system.
