Chicago – A man from the nearby north side is accused of robbing a man in Chinatown after the victim got off a casino shuttle bus this week. Three similar robberies on casino customers who took the shuttle took place earlier, according to a Chicago police report.
A tactical unit patrolled late on Wednesday evening in Chinatown, specifically looking for a car that was used in three robberies around 1:30 am, the victims reported that they were the target of a casino shuttle.
Around 11.30 pm the tactical team saw in the 200 block of West 23rd Street Willie Greenwood who rode a black Hyundai Tucson, similar to a linked to the earlier robberies, according to his arrest report. Greenwood, 27, gave the police permission to search his car and the agents say they have found a BB gun gun in his hand shoe compartment.
A Chinatown Security Officer contacted the police and reported that a 65-year-old man had been robbed just a few minutes before the traffic stop.
The victim told the police that he walked home from the Casino bus of Chinatown when a masked man pointed a gun to him and ordered him to transfer his money, according to the report. The report said he gave the thief $ 105, including five $ 20 bills. The thief looked for the victim’s bags in search of more but got empty.
Officers achieved CPD monitoring video and discovered images showing that Greenwood got out of his car and ran through the 200 block of West 24th Street at the time of the robbery. The report said the video came back to his car a little later.
Greenwood claimed that he dropped a friend and checked his girlfriend’s company and said he never got out of his car, according to the report. Greenwood, confronted with the video, admitted that it was that he was running through the street, but he would reportedly explain that he was looking for his girlfriend’s car.
CPD officers found $ 400 in possession of Greenwood, including five $ 20 accounts, according to the arrest report. The victim also identified him as the thief.
Judge Deidre Dyer held Greenwood on Friday afternoon. He is accused of armed robbery. He is not accused of the three robberies that took place earlier on Wednesday.
