Chicago – After a few years of consistently bad news for the bars and restaurants of Chicago, there is good news to report today.
The industry has recently been closed by waves of burglaries late in the evening and CPD has released more than a dozen warnings about the problem. But there has not been many arrests.
A man who was arrested for breaking in a bunch of bars in Wigleyville, however, argued this week guilty. He received a prison sentence of six years.
Tommie Hoskins, 30, brought some of the most famous bars in the vicinity of the friendly borders, civil servants said: Cubby Bear and Nisei Lounge in September 2023 and Sluggers and HVAC last February. The burglary in Nisei was caught on video.
He was caught during the burglary of the Slugger. Cops were warned by a burglar alarm and they arrived on time to see Hoskins walking from the side entrance of the bar, according to a CPD report. Allegedly, Hoskins forced itself through an opening to gain access to the company.
The report said he had an iPad, a bag with ‘various items’, and six portfolios with IDs of women in New York, Ohio, Wisconsin and Illinois, as well as credit cards and a social security card.
This week, Hoskins pleaded to one count of identity theft and four counts of burglary. Judge Aleksandra Gillespie gave him four simultaneous 6-year penalties for the burglaries and a similar period of 5 years for the ID theft.
His sentence will be reduced to three years with good behavior. He will also receive 354 days of credit, he spent electronic monitoring while things were awaiting.
