7-year-old girl shot in the stomach in broad daylight in New York: police

A 7-year-old girl was struck by an apparent stray bullet in broad daylight Monday during a shooting on a Harlem corner, authorities and sources said.

A bullet struck the youth in the stomach as she walked with her family at the intersection of West 145th Street and Bradhurst Avenue around 2:50 p.m., police and sources said.

According to the sources, the gunfire appeared to come from two young men on the next corner.

The girl – who did not appear to be the intended target – was rushed in a police car to Harlem Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.

School supplies and loose items of clothing were strewn on the sidewalk about two hours after the girl was shot.

Two male teenagers, ages 17 and 19, were taken into custody on gun charges, but investigators are looking into whether there is probable cause to charge them in the shooting, sources said.

There was no immediate information on a motive for the gunfire.
