A seven -time convicted criminal who was shot down while he was trying to kill a hidden bear holder in 2022, was sentenced to 20 years in prison: 17 years for the attempted murder and another three years for a weapon attack where he was on bail at the time of the shooting.
Shortly after midnight on August 22, 2022, a 45-year-old hidden bond holder accompanied a girlfriend to her house after leaving a club. After he got her home safely, he went to his own home, said civil servants.
While he parked in the 5500 block of West Crystal, Willie Barnes moved in a ski mask, past him in a car and opened fire, according to public prosecutors. The victim returned and hit Barnes in the belly.
Researchers initially suspected that the victim had been the target of a carjacking, but they later learned that Barnes had a child with the woman who escorted the victim home.
The victim called 911 as he held his firearm on Barnes, who screamed about “wild life and healing” while he was injured on the floor, the prosecutors said. The police received two shot spotter notifications at the shooting location around 1:27 am
Officers found Barnes behind a Buick and apparently tried to hide a gun and ski mask behind the rear tire of the vehicle. He was consciously but seriously injured. The victim was unharmed.
At the time of the shooting, Barnes was on a bail for an armed habit of class X and was also investigated for a federal drug shop, for which he was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2023. His earlier crime judgments include two robberies and a carjacking from 2003.
Court reports indicate that judge Angela Munari-Petrone Barnes convicted of the age of 17 for attempted murder and three consecutive years because they are a criminal in possession of a firearm. He argued guilty of both counts. The Illinois Department of Corrections has not yet released its expected conditional date.
