A man was sentenced to 9 years old because he was said to have shot another man during a theft attempt in 2021. Omari Whitaker, 26, was on a bail for a crime gun case and on a trial for a crime gun case at the time of the incident.
In October 2021, Whitaker, a 19-year-old friend and friend of the friend all hung around in the friend’s house on the 1300 block of South Lawndale, said officials. Whitaker was chilling and played with a gun, when the 19-year-old reached in a backpack to take some weed out.
At a certain point, instead, the man also got $ 300 instead and put it on his leg. When he saw the money, Whitaker is said to have bumped the man’s leg, the gun aimed at him and demanded his money. The two men struggled for control over the weapon.
The first shot that Whitaker reportedly fired the finger of the other man, causing the victim’s girlfriend to rode out of the house in fear, the prosecutors said.
Another bullet hit the victim in his stomach and he begged Whitaker to stop photographing, according to the version of events presented by officers of justice. Whitaker is said to have given the man for five seconds to run away, and the victim made the opportunity to lock himself up in a bedroom.
Officials said Whitake kicked the door of the door and demanded the man’s jacket.
An ambulance later brought the victim to the Mt. Sinai Hospital in a critical condition, where he underwent surgery.
The police found Whitaker in a garden a few blocks of the Schietscène. Allegedly they found the stolen coat of the victim in a barbecue grill near his hiding place. The victim’s backpack, which contained a gun, was found a few meters away.
Whitaker argued this week guilty of the worse battery by discharging a firearm in exchange for the 9-year prison sentence of judge Mary Brosnahan. The crime gun that he had in treatment at the time of the shooting has still not been resolved.
