90,000 Americans Warned After Healthcare Firm Breached, Placing Patients’ Names, Social Security Numbers and Health Records at Risk

Tens of thousands of Americans are now at risk of identity theft and privacy breaches after a healthcare company suffered a cybersecurity event.

A new bulletin from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights shows that the National Association on Drug Abuse Problems (NADAP) suffered a hacking/IT incident involving 90,000 Americans.

In a message sent to the affected people, NADAP say an unauthorized entity gained access to its systems and stole the company’s data collection, which may include names, social security numbers, birthdays, medical history, health insurance information, and tax or financial information.

“On or around January 10, 2026, we identified suspicious activity within our network. We immediately took steps to secure the area and initiated an investigation.

With the support of cybersecurity experts, we have learned of information indicating that an unknown actor has gained unauthorized access to our network and accessed files, some of which may contain protected health information and/or protected personal information. NADAP then worked expeditiously to identify affected information and individuals. This is an ongoing process.”

NADAP is a New York-based company specializing in providing health and employment services, including substance abuse assessment and referral, job preparation programs, job training, job placement and more.

The company says it has taken additional measures to strengthen network security to reduce the risk of a similar event occurring in the future. NADAP also urges affected people to closely monitor their accounts for suspicious activity.

The company added that it has reported the incident to law enforcement agencies and appropriate authorities.
