Tasty trolls swarmed the Ivy League graduate suspected in the execution of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City — and even threatened the McDonald’s employee who helped capture the fugitive.
The Internet erupted Monday after anti-capitalist Luigi Mangione feasted on corporate fast food at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after an eagle eye worker recognized him from surveillance footage of the alleged killer.
“To the stupid bra that betrayed my baby Luigi Mangione… you are being dealt with,” another wrote, along with a violent:Family Guy” gif of a character shooting someone in the head.
Users even took action to boycott the fast food chain in light of the arrest.
“In solidarity, I will be boycotting all McDonald’s in the area,” one user posted on Altoona’s Reddit page. “I suggest you consider doing the same.”
Thompson was shot dead as he left a hotel on Wednesday and his killer has been on the run ever since.
But Mangione — a University of Pennsylvania graduate with six-pack abs — had supporters supporting him despite his cold-blooded crime, as criticism of the health insurance industry mounted.
“The manhunt has now ended and investigators declare ‘too hot to convict,’” one X user wrote.
Other supporters have reportedly set up GoFundMe accounts to raise money for Mangione’s legal fees, although the site has removed such pages.
Reddit also appears to be phasing out support for the alleged killer. The site banned an r/LuigiMangione community hours after it was created, but not before the page had hundreds of subscribers.
Netizens, meanwhile, have attacked the tipster who called the police as a “traitor” and a “rat,” with some users publicly threatening the unnamed employee.
McDonalds itself plays a prominent role in the memes and jokes.
“Bro, the McRib is back, that took him down. No one can resist the return of the McRib,” one user joked on Mangione’s Reddit page before it was banned.
