Through a unique collaboration between The Jaunt and Hashimoto contemporarythree female artists spent a week together in the small town of Shelton, south of Olympia National Park.
Walking, delving into the history of the area and learning about each other’s work, Bianca Nemelc, Genevieve Cohnand Seonna Hong participated in the former Winter camp. With space and time free from their daily routines, the artists were invited to find inspiration in their new environment.
The Jaunt was founded in 2013 by Jeroen Smeets, who curates the project and facilitates travel for artists to destinations around the world. The program does not assign a specific agenda or assignment; the primary goal is to provide new experiences that inspire the creative process.
Cohn, Hong and Nemelc focused primarily on painting and working on paper, in response to the act of collecting and the lush, natural environment of the Pacific Northwest.
“By sharing common threads and divergent paths between each other’s experiences as artists and women navigating the world, the weeklong residency enabled artists from different locations, backgrounds and generations to create community,” said a statement about the program .
Winter camp is on view through December 21 at Hashimoto Contemporary’s San Francisco location. See the gallery for more information websiteand you can discover more about it too The outing.
