CHICAGO – An off-duty police officer was carjacked at gunpoint in Bucktown Thursday evening.

The 26-year-old officer was walking in the 1900 block of West Cortland when four armed men got out of a red sedan around 10:46 p.m., officials said. The hijackers took the man’s bag and his black 2014 Mercedes convertible. CPD said the victim was not injured.

He described the hijackers as black men between 16 and 20 years old. The leader of the group wore a red jacket and a black balaclava. According to a preliminary investigation, the red car the group exited from may have been a newer model Kia with temporary Florida license plates.

CWBChicago was founded in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had become discouraged by the inaccurate information presented during local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has since expanded to Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown and other North Side areas. But our mission remains unchanged: to provide original public safety reporting with better context and more detail than mainstream media. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
