Female car thief stabbed victim, crashed and then stabbed second person in Garfield Ridge, police say

CHICAGO – A female car thief stole a woman’s car in Garfield Ridge and then stabbed a man who tried to help her after she crashed the hijacked SUV a few blocks away, Chicago police said Thursday morning. Fire crews trapped the hijacker at the scene of the accident and held her until police arrived.

It all started in the 5100 block of South Rutherford around 6:31 am. CPD said a 41-year-old woman was walking to her car when the assailant stabbed her and drove away in her 2014 Nissan Rogue.

The victim was taken to Christ Hospital in critical condition with stab wounds to her chest and biceps, police said.

A few minutes later, the carjacker crashed the Rogue into parked cars in the 5100 block of South Mulligan. A 30-year-old man who lives nearby stepped outside with his baby to check on the woman, according to information from a witness. As he did so, the car thief stabbed him in the back. EMS transported him to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

Members of the Chicago Fire Department who responded to the scene of the accident held the hijacker until the CPD arrived to take her into custody. She was taken to Holy Cross Hospital for a check-up.

Our coverage area has since expanded to Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown and other North Side areas.
