CHICAGO – A judge on Wednesday imposed a five-year prison sentence on the man accused of stabbing two people during a fight in West Rogers Park.

Boris Vasilic, 42, pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated assault, causing great bodily harm, according to court records. Prosecutors agreed to drop 10 more felony charges, including two attempted murder charges.

On September 14, 2023 around 10:10 a.m., police responded to calls about a fight in progress in the 2800 block of West Devon. As officers drove to the scene, 911 callers reported that two people had been stabbed.

Witnesses told police that Vasilic approached a 35-year-old man and stabbed him with a knife. A 32-year-old man tried to intervene and Vasilic stabbed him as well, according to a Chicago police report.

Vasilic and the older man continued to fight and eventually burst into a law office, where they argued on the floor, according to the report. Vasilic allegedly stabbed the 35-year-old several times in the back while he lay on the ground. Police found Vasilic on the second-floor porch of a nearby house and took him into custody.

According to the police report, the older man underwent surgery for stab wounds to his neck, back and face. The younger man was released after doctors stitched stab wounds to his mouth and shoulder.

Judge Shelley Sutker-Dermer oversaw the case and handed down Vasilic’s sentence. His five-year term will be halved for good behavior. The time Vasilic spent in prison while the case was pending will be reduced by another 481 days.
