CHICAGO – Prosecutors have charged an 18-year-old man with carjacking one victim and robbing another on the same day. Cameron White, 18, is accused of working with an accomplice who displayed a gun during both crimes, but White is the only person charged so far.

It started around 6 p.m. when White and his accomplice took the keys and a phone from a 44-year-old man in the 5400 block of South Spaulding, CPD said. White allegedly took the man’s belongings while the accomplice held the victim at gunpoint. They both fled in his 2011 Honda Pilot.

Less than an hour later, they allegedly robbed a 28-year-old man in the 5300 block of South Campbell. Again, White’s partner held the victim at gunpoint while White took the man’s wallet, phone and cigarettes, according to a Chicago police arrest report.

It didn’t take long for police to spot the carjacked car in traffic. Police say the car crashed when they tried to stop it, and two people fled from the Honda. Police tracked down White in the 5700 block of South Talman, but the other person was able to escape.

Judge Shauna Boliker arrested White on charges of aggravated vehicle hijacking and armed robbery.
