Gang fight leaves one dead and two injured in Humboldt Park

CHICAGO – A fight between gang members from Chicago and New York City ended Sunday morning when one man was fatally shot and two others were stabbed in Humboldt Park.

In a media statement, Chicago police said “a group of individuals were involved in a physical altercation…when shots were heard” in the 3100 block of West Luis Munoz Marin Drive around 11:23 a.m.

Responding officers found a 47-year-old man near a baseball diamond with a gunshot wound to his lower back. While he initially responded, he succumbed to his injuries a short time later at a nearby hospital.

Individuals at the scene identified him as a Latin King gang member visiting from New York City.

Shortly after the shooting, two men sought treatment for knife wounds to their heads or faces at separate hospitals. A 42-year-old man sought care at Ascension St. Mary Hospital, while a 35-year-old man went to Humboldt Park Health. Chicago police said they were both transported to Stroger Hospital.

Our coverage area has since expanded to Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown and other North Side areas.
