Hundreds of NYPD officers will be moved on Monday from their commands to transit Hubs on Gotham-as part of the recently launched anti-crime initiative on the rails at night, according to NYPD documents.
The personnel assignments were sent department -wide on Friday and mention around 700 officers who are deployed underground.
The police are from districts and other assignments in the city.
A number of them are recent graduates from the Police Academy.
Two of them are from the Nypd’s alms unit and several are from the head office on one police square in Manhattan.
Eight of the police come from the court case, where NYPD police officers offer security for court buildings in Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens.
The transfers cause alarm bells for some court officials, who say they are already short -supporting, a police source said.
“Courts are already short -supporting,” said the source. “People wait nearly 40 hours to be previously lived. They want it to be less than 24 hours. There are no agents in the courts as it is. Sometimes you have three agents with 75 people. ‘
The overnight metrostoot started on January 20, with 100 agents deployed after several high -profile crimes underground, including a man pushed on the track for a train in Manhattan and survive Brooklyn Metro car.
Crime in general in the transits system of the city has so far fallen by 36% compared to 2024, but the crime has so far increased by 56% to 106 this year at the same point last year, according to NYPD data .
