Chicago – For more than ten minutes, a woman flourished out of shot wounds on doors in the South Shore district and tried to get help on Tuesday morning. When the Chicago police arrived, they found two more women with shot wounds in a nearby alley. They were both dead.
Nobody called 911 about rifle fire in the neighborhood, which used to be followed by the Shotspotter Network of the city. After the fact, however, a neighbor told the police that they heard some shots shoot.
Mayor Brandon Johnson ignored the supplications of the inhabitants of the city and most of the city council when he allowed the Schotspotter contract in September. Ald. Gregory Mitchell (7th) was one of the aldermen who encouraged Johnson to keep the technology. He represents the area where the victims were found this morning.
The first signs of problems came around 4:50 am when a 911 -Beller reported that a woman covered blood on their door in the 2300 block of East 78th Street, according to CPD Dispatch Audio. More calls came in. Residents reported that the woman seemed to have a cut wounds and bleed out of her neck.
CPD officers found the woman at 5 o’clock in the morning and immediately asked EMS. She told them she had been shot, but could not offer many details because of the seriousness of her injuries, an officer said. The police later confirmed that she sustained shot wounds on her face and chest. She was in a critical condition at the University of Chicago Hospital.
Researchers searched the area and found two more women dead in an alley behind the 7700 block of South Oglesby. Both were shot in the head and neither had identified, said officers. Police officers found eight Shell -Om shells near the bodies.
CPD said that all women between 20 and 30 years old seemed to be.
From 12:01 pm on September 23, 2024, Chicago terminated his relationship with Shotspotter, a gunfire detection system that was used in 12 of the most of the city implemented by violence.
Mayor Brandon Johnson stubbornly refused to reconsider his decision to dismantle the Schotspotter, although the vast majority of aldermen, many citizens, the victim’s lawyers and his chosen police -superintendent asked that it was present.
This reporting series, called “Brandon’s Bodies”, wants to document matters of shooting victims and police investigations that may have benefited from shot detection technology.
