Chicago -For almost six minutes, police officers in Chicago were behind an armed burglary suspect and brought him to several shootouts, the latter ended with the man who was dead in a North -Lawndale -Steeg, according to CPD and police radio transmissions. The last moments of the incident were caught on video.
Officers initially responded to the 911 call of a landlord about a man on a ladder trying to climb in an apartment window in the 1800 block of South Central Park around 10:48 am Sunday.
Only four minutes later, an officer on the radio announced that he saw the burglar in an alley with a firearm. This eight -minute Audioclip contains the unprocessed radio traffic that followed.
Officers said they saw the man jump into a fence and later declared a “10-1” police emergency, and said that shots were fired.
The tense encounter ended at 10:58 am, near the intersection of 18th and Millard. Video initially tweeted by @cpd1617scanner shows how it ends: shots are fired and officers run for coverage in a vacancy. While the suspect runs behind the fate in the alley, there is a barrel of gunfire and falls on the sidewalk.
“I think I shot the perpetrator!” An officer screams in his radio. “He’s down! He’s down! “

The call was of a burglary in progress when a man who wore a ski mask on the police and fled on foot with a gun in his hand. He then shot shot on the police and the police returned.

CPD has issued a media statement with its provisional findings:
Chicago-on Sunday 2 February 2025, at about 10:47 am, in Chicago police officers responded to the 10th (Ogden) district on a burglary in the 1800 block of S. Central Park Ave. Responding officers met the suspect, who resulted in a foot hunt and an exchange of gunfire at several locations in the immediate vicinity. Officers were fired by the perpetrator and returned and hit the perpetrator. Officers provided first aid to the perpetrator, who was subsequently pronounced in an area hospital. A weapon was found on the spot. Officers were taken to an area hospital for observation. The investigation team of investigation is on scene and the civilian police officer. The research is underway.
The office of the medical researcher of Cook County did not release the name of the deceased man, but the agency said he was 28 years old.
