For more than a year, companies in Chicago have been closed by burglary crews that break in and steal money, drink and safes during the night hours. CPD has published countless warnings about the crimes that occur most in restaurants and bars of local ownership.
In a few warnings that were published at the end of last year, investigators have linked a single burglary team At least 30 business burglaries In neighborhoods that extend from Beverly to Wicker Park to Jefferson Park.
Now public prosecutors have accused a man of participating in some of the burglaries of that group. Markell McCamury, 18, of the 100 block of North La Crosse, was first arrested by police in Wicker Park.
Around 3:45 am on December 2, a CPD camera saw an orange Nissan Rogue with a broken passenger window parked in the 1500 block of South Damen. A similar car was used in other burglaries, so the camera operator patrol units sent to the scene.
The agents arrived quickly enough to see McCamury and two accomplices hit from Paulie Gee’s, a pizza store at 1566 North Damen, according to a CPD report. Two burglars fled in the Nissan Rogue – one in the driver’s seat and one on the hood.
Officers arrested McCamury after a short foot hunt, according to the report. He reportedly had $ 4,761 when the police took him.
Officers of Justice accused him of the infringement of Paulie Gee’s and broke in Lucky Dog, 7151 16th Street in Berwyn, that same night, according to the court applications.
CPD later issued an updated community warning that linked the same burglary team in Chicago that evening in Chicago, but McCamury is not accused of participating in it.
However, researchers were able to link him to a few earlier business burglaries, and public prosecutors accused him of breaking Simón Tacos, 4263 North Milwaukee, and Rainbow Cone, 9233 South Western Avenue, according to criminal complaints.
Although CPD has said that four or five men have worked to commit the burglaries, he is the only person accused of one of them.
