For anyone who are shy or anxious about interaction with others in the outside world, we can think of the face that we ‘turn on’ with which we can feel less anxious. For Lena Guberman (Earlier), a recent series of ceramic sculptures entitled Ins_ide_out Dives into her youth experiences with social fear and the uncertainties of the unknown.
“The mask offers a protective scale and presents a ‘perfect’ appearance for the outside world, but does not fail to stop the fears and emotions to burst,” Guilman tells Colossal.

Each piece is modeled on the same melancholic face of a young, brown -haired girl, with painted and sculpted elements that vary from spikes to arrows to a dead bird. Emotionally suggestive and sometimes somewhat disturbing, her sculptures explore the spectrum of feelings associated with fear.
Guilman is currently planning a project that expands in her use of ceramics by adding other materials. See more work on her website” InstagramAnd Clank.
