More than 100 vehicles have been involved in a pileup on an Oregon highway Thursday, officials said.
As snow batters the state, dozens of cars, trucks and semi-trucks have crashed into one another on a stretch of highway on I-84 near Multnomah Falls, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office. There are reports of people stuck inside their vehicles.
An SUV involved in the pileup also caught fire. The sheriff’s office said Thursday afternoon that everyone in the SUV was able to get out and first responders are on the scene.
“Responders are going car by car,” the sheriff’s office said on social media. “There are reports of injuries; no number at this time. Whiteout conditions. I-84 westbound remains closed at Multnomah Falls.”
Pictures shared by the sheriff’s office show the harsh cold and the SUV on fire. The sheriff’s office said to avoid traveling if possible.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
