A second teenager was arrested on Friday in the deadly shooting of a 57-year-old woman trying to defend her husband and son against the violent couple of robbers in September, Cops said.
Joshua Bell, 19, was accused of murder, theft, burglary and criminal possession of a weapon in the murder on September 9 at Ying Zhu Liu, who was shot in the face of the Lower Manhattan Condo building of 44 Market Street, the police said.
The violent test unfolded around 11 p.m. when the two ski-mask-bearing suspects Liu’s husband, Shen Yan, 61, followed in the elevator of the apartment around 10:50 am and, according to the police, pulled a gun on him.
The young criminals then grabbed the Samsung telephone of Yan and $ 100 cash, according to a criminal complaint.
When the elevator doors on the 8th floor opened, where Yan lived with his family, the father lived his 32-year-old son, Lin Rong Yan, waiting for him in the hallway and gave a hair-raising warning.
“Stay back, they have a gun,” he said, according to the application.
The younger Yan tried to intervene just to receive a gun that broke his face and nose.
That is then Liu, who heard the commotion, stepped out of the apartment to come to the help of her husband and son.
One of the robbers then lifted a gun and shot a single shot in Liu’s face of three feet distance – so she fell on the floor, where blood flowed out of her mouth and head.
Liu, an assistant for home health, was declared dead on the spot.
Bell, who wore a white T-shirt over a cream-colored shirt and shorts, and black sandals with socks, said nothing because detectives led him from the 5th Precinct Stationhouse on Friday afternoon.
Bell, who was last arrested in August 2023 for theft, according to the police, awaited on Friday evening for the lead.
Dante Schaller, 16, who was arrested 10 days after the murder, stood for the same charges as Bell, Cops said.
The Manhattan DA office has confirmed that Schaller, who became 16 days before the fatal shooting, will be prosecuted as an adult.
He had an open crime case for attacking a police officer, says sources.
