Three older iPhone models will be excluded when Apple rolls iOS 19 later this year.
Early rumors had suggested that Apple would maintain exactly the same selection of supported devices with its next mobile operating system, iOS 19.
However, the latest report of an anonymous and private X (formerly Twitter) user with a solid track record suggests that this may not be the case.
Which iPhones are ready to be excluded from iOS 19?
According to the anonymous Tipster (via 9to5Mac), the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR will not receive an upgrade to iOS in September.
All three of these phones were released in 2018 and have received one of the most extensive support from every Apple smartphone so far. All currently support iOS 18, which represents the seventh version of Apple’s operating system to run on it.
It has been good innings for these three phones, but a move to iOS 19 would represent an unprecedented level of support from Apple – or another manufacturer.

The next iPhone on the chopping block
Google and Samsung have guaranteed seven years of software support for their latest phones, the Google Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S25. That is exactly where the iPhone XS and iPhone XR will roll around September, and we expect Apple to continue to offer security updates for a few years later.
All this means that the iPhone 11 series are the oldest phones performed on iOS 19. If you still perform one of those vintage handsets, this might be the time to start saving for an upgrade. We expect the iPhone 17 air to introduce an exciting new option at the end of 2025, while the iPhone 18 has already been tipped for a number of serious camera -upgrades in 2026.
With regard to iOS 19, you can bet that Apple will present its new mobile operating system on WWDC 2025 in June.
