Two men accused of robbing a few under shot in the West Loop were sentenced to prison, with one 8 years left while the other was sentenced to 20 years old.
Simeon Allen, 25, received the longer punishment after he was found guilty of armed robbery on Monday. His accomplice, Devonta Thompson, 28, argued guilty in January. Judge Adrienne Davis condemned both men.
Shortly after 9 p.m. on October 18, 2023, a man and wife walked back to their parked car in the first block of North Green when Thompson and all ran to them while they waved firearms, the authorities said.
Both men screamed for the couple to surrender their bag, portfolios, cash and telephones, and Thompson pushed the male victim, 39, to a car, said public prosecutors. The woman, 36, screamed for help and attracted the attention of someone in an apartment across the street.
Prosecutors said that Thompson and Allen the ownership of the couple of names and to a Chrysler 300 ran in the neighborhood. But one of the victims was able to remember the license plate of the car and the Chicago police started to follow the vehicle with the help of the CPD’s city -wide network of license plate readers.
A CPD helicopter team found the car while it traveled through the city and saw the crew of the air unit running three people from the vehicle after it crashed into a parked car in the 100 block of North Hoyne. Patrol officers arrested Thompson and all nearby.
Prosecutors said that Thompson had the key to the Chrysler and the credit card of the victim of the male robbery in his pocket. Thompson’s phone was reportedly under the driver’s seat of the car.
Allen had two previous convictions of the crime gun at the time of the robbery. Thompson was convicted of owning a stolen motor vehicle in 2019.
