A Uber passenger was convicted to live in prison without conditional release for the 2022 murder of the driver, the 38-year-old mother Christina Spicuzza.
Spicuzza’s family said that they showed ‘grace’ on her murderer by asking that he is not receiving the death penalty for the meaningless dead.
Calvin Crew, 25, was convicted of life without conditional release in the Allegheny County courthouse in Pittsburgh for the murder of the mother of four, CBS News reported.
The Spicuzza family has read impact statements to the court, despite the fact that the murderer is not present for his conviction.
“You should have the death penalty, but we showed grace,” said Spicuzza’s mother, Cindy Spicuzza.
“You executed her. No grace, no regrets. It was disgusting. It was murder.”
The Spicuzza family had asked the court not to give crew the death penalty and said before his trial started earlier this year, prosecutors said they would not look for a death penalty.
The life of Spicuzza, Brandon Marto, unleashed on the crew in his explanation for not having the courage to attend his conviction.
“No other reason than a coward. A coward that could not be here today to face this,” he said.
“Christy was everything for my family. I was lost, out of hand. She saw something in me.”
Marto also told the judge that he hoped that the crew would “rot and burn in prison.”
The convicted murderer was also beaten by 13 to 26 years for kidnapping and theft during the conviction.
Spicuzza had picked up crew, with a dark hoodie with a mask, around 9 p.m. on 10 February 2022, while he was driving for Uber.
About 10 minutes after the ride, however, the murderer was caught on dashcam images and placed a gun against the back of her head.
“You have to joke,” she said, before she realized the seriousness of the situation.
Crew told her that she had to keep driving, “as Spicuzza argued,” Come on, I have a family, “the video shows.
“I beg you. I have four children,” said Spicuzza.
“I also have a family,” Crew told her. “Drive now.”
During the ride, Spicuzza crew begged to remove the gun from her head several times.
“Please get that from me,” she begged.
“Do what I say and everything will be fine,” Crew told her.
The video ended after he noticed the camera and grabbed the dashboard.
Two days later, the mother of the body of four was found in a wooded area in Monroeville with a single shot wound at the head.
The crew was arrested days later and was accused of criminal murder, theft and mess with evidence.
After his arrest, the murderer told the police that after his Uber trip ended with Spicuzza, he got out of the vehicle and later took a bus home to Pitcairn, but surveillance images showed that he never got in or out of a bus.
The police said that GPS records showed that she had been driven through different neighborhoods with the crew in the back seat.
The police later found the Spicuzza dashboard camera where she picked up crew.
Crew also received a text from his girlfriend, Tanaya Mullen, who said: “[I’m] do not go to prison when we are caught, “according to the complaint obtained by The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
During his conviction on Monday, the crew’s lawyer said that the 25-year-old convicted murderer “lived a youth surrounded by violence and neglect,” said CBS News.
His lawyers have indicated that he will appeal against his conviction and his innocence.
