The new material from Google 3 Expressive design language is perhaps one of the big focus for Google I/O next week, but it is already starting to appear on Pixel Watch Smartwatches.
The new design language for Android 16 and the apps from Google has already leaked extensively, but it is only to take public in Google I/O 2025 on 20 May.
However, one Reddit user has seen signs of this new, more extensive look that has already made itself in the wild.

Material 3 Expressively appears on wearing operating system
Wear OS 6 will only get the material 3 expressive treatment later this year, but the new look started with dribbling to apps and tiles.
Reddit user Turntablesagain has noticed Material 3 Expressive’s larger, more screen-shaped buttons that appear on two Google Agenda Wear OS tiles using their Pixel Watch 3. Android Police also claims that these new ‘expressive’ buttons appear on their Google Pixel Watch 2.
It does not seem to find its way to all OS devices, but even after a recent update of version 2025.18.1. It seems that Google is currently selectively rolling out the new tile design.

What else can we expect from material 3 Expressive?
Last week we reported on another large ‘Oopsie’ moment of Google, because it gave a long -term blog post about the design process behind the new material 3 expressive language.
Google has plowed more practical research into its new user interface than any other, with the intention of creating a system that is “both beautiful and very useful” by making “important actions stand out and group as elements together”.
If the extensive feedback from users suggested that it should move the location of a button and make it much bigger, Google did it.
Quite strange, while Android 16 will be launched next month, the Material 3 Expressive UI is only ready later in the year. This Limited Wear OS update can prove to be a fairly early taste for what is coming.
