A suspected post thief who jumped out of an apartment on the third floor to escape from Chicago Cops last February received a probationary period of two years on Wednesday.
Jamal Campbell, 31, argued guilty of burglary and escape by a criminal in exchange for the punishment of judge Maria Kuriakos-Ciesil. She also ordered him to perform 100 hours of community service.
Chicago Cops responded to the 1200 block of West 54th Street around 12.30 pm on 4 February 2024, after 911 callers reported that a man was walking in and out of residential buildings. At least one caller saw the man use a Master’s key of the Postservice to open a bank with mailboxes.
The officers quickly found Campbell in the vestibule of a building. According to their report, he sorted e -mail from an open mailbox.
Campbell shot to the third floor and the chasing officers reported that they heard a loud bunch of noise and break the sound of glass while kicking in the door of an empty apartment and jumped out of a bedroom window.
When the officers looked out the window, “they observed the perpetrator on the floor because he jumped out of the window,” said the report. While an officer had called for Campbell and for paramedics, others found a black bag in the apartment that reportedly contained a masters key of the mail and a bundle E -mail.
Campbell was admitted to the hospital with serious injury after the dive.
Public Prosecutors dropped a third case on Wednesday with which he was confronted with illegal possession of payment cards and identity theft.

CWBCHICAGO was founded in 2013 by five residents of Wigleyville and Boystown who had been discouraged with inaccurate information that was provided during meetings of the local community policing (CAPS). Our coverage area has since been expanded to cover Lincoln Park, River North, De Loop, Uptown and other North Side areas.
