Stephen Graham, who is co-written, co-written and plays in the acclaimed Netflix series ‘Adolescence’, hopes that the show will call at home.
“When I and Jack (co-maker, Jack Thorne) began to talk about this and to write and create, we wanted to have conversations between parents and children,” he told the post exclusively during the Gotham Television Awards on Monday 2 June. “That was our ultimate thing.
“We wanted to try to see if we could create that conversation that should happen.”
It is safe to say that the creative duo has fulfilled their wish.
The show, which premiered in March, has reached Almost 150 million views Worldwide.
It is all about a 13-year-old boy named Jamie Miller (played by Owen Cooper) who is arrested after the murder of a girl at his school. The series takes a pointed look at the role that social media has in shaping young male teenagers and their views on women.

“I think it’s something we might all have to take responsibility for,” he said. “I mean, you know, from the training, parenting, the social type of environment in which our children grow up, and now I think these major social media companies have a responsibility themselves.”
Graham was quick to clarify that “I am not saying the police” but rather “I just say it [they] have a responsibility to be aware. ‘

Graham recently opened that although “adolescents” is fictional, he used real crimes in Great Britain in Great Britain in recent years as inspiration behind the show.
“I read an article in the newspaper, that was about a young boy who had stabbed a young girl dead. And … I was stunned by what I read,” he said in March, by NPR.

Graham continued: “There is a beautiful saying, that is, a village is needed to raise a child. And within that kind of complexity … it’s a bit like, perhaps we are all responsible.
“When a child closed the door on the day when I and you it were, we had no access to the rest of the world [via the internet]And we could not be dramatically influenced by other people and their theories and their thinking processes. So that was what we really wanted to look at. ‘
