A man in the suburbs rode 67 km / h in a residential area when he walked a stopboard and hit another car, killing a 14-year-old boy in the other vehicle, the prosecutors said this week. William Andrade, 26, of Rolling Meadows, is accused of reckless murder in connection with the January 30, 2025, crashes at the intersection of Albany and Rosemont in West Rogers Park.
Shortly after midnight, Andrade started driving home from work in a nearby fast food restaurant with a colleague in the passenger seat, said assistant state procurer Mike Pekara in a written tender.
The colleague later remembered that Andrade delayed his Ford Fiesta, but when suddenly accelerated to the intersection and not delayed before the stop sign at Rosemont, Pekara said. His car hit the passenger side of an SUV that crossed the intersection.
The SUV ran out of the power of the impact and landed on a nearby sidewalk on the passenger side.
Data extracted from the vehicles who reportedly have shown that the SUV drove approximately 14 km / h at the time of impact, while Andrade traveled with 67 mph. The driver of the SUV brought the brakes half a second before the impact, but Andrade never touched his brakes for the collision, according to Pekara.
Daniel Dadako, a 14-year-old boy who rode in the backseat of the SUV, was seriously injured and died two days later in the Lurie Children’s Hospital, Pekara said. The driver of the SUV sustained a broken rib and leg injury, while the passenger suffered a broken knee for the front seat.
Chicago police officers found Andrade next to his vehicle at the crash scene. Pekara said Antrade “made admission to driving, fast driving and not stop at the stop sign.”
Pekara noted that Andrade received three quotes for fast driving from 15 to 25 km / h above the limit in 2020, which led to his license being suspended. He was also involved in another collision that caused personal injury last year, said the public prosecutor.
Judge Ankur Srivastava denied a detention -petition that had been submitted against Andrade. Instead, the judge ordered Andrade to wear a single monitor and stay under house arrest 24 hours a day.
