In 1979, together with Ellen Ripley and the other passengers of the Nostromo, viewers left deep space to meet the deadly xenomorph. More than 30 years after the release of Ridley Scott’s Alien, FX will bring the predatory creature – and the public – back to home grass. The series, a prequel of the famous film, takes place on earth and it’s called … Alien: Earth.
Although the title may be less than exciting (compared to titles such as Alien Resurrection of Prometheus), and some recent franchise periods have not been great, the project looks promising.
Noah Hawley, best known as the maker of the TV shows of Fargo and Legion, is the maker, showrunner and director. Ridley Scott, who directed the first alien film in 1979, is affiliated with the series as an executive producer. However, this is not the only project of the Alien Universe with the involvement of Scott – his new film Alien: Romulus Hit in August 2024.
Alien: Earth (in addition to Alien: Romulus) is designed to expand the universe and attract a new generation of viewers. It is planned as a story with several season, but with a definitive end, which is a good sign, considering how many shows are finally towed and disappointing.

When is Alien: earth released?
According to FX, Alien: Earth will debut at Hulu and Disney+ On Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at 8 p.m. PT/ET. The series contains eight episodes, with the first two to fall on the premiere date and the rest follows in weekly installments.

The show was announced in 2020. However, it took a lot of time to continue production. Filming for the show started in Thailand on April 19, 2024 and the wrapping in July 2024.
What will the plot of Alien: earth will be?
This time we will encounter the chesting Xenomorph this time in deep space. The series will be set on earth, In the year 2120Two years before the events of the first released film of the franchise: Alien. This is quite surprising, because the first reports about the series suggested that the action would take place, even before Prometheus.

When a mysterious spacecraft crashes on earth, a young woman (Sydney Chandler) and a Ragtag group tactical soldiers make a fatal discovery that brings them face-to-face with the greatest threat of the planet in FX’s long-awaited TV series Alien: Earth by Hawley
The plot will focus on the infamous Weyland-Yutani Corporation, a corrupt conglomerate that deals with various companies, including the production of Androids and spaceships and the organization of space colonization missions.
The company was also deeply involved in the search for alien life forms. At one point Weyland-Yutani deciphered a message sent by the Acheron Moon, who seemed to be a warning about dangerous species. In Alien, the corporation sent the unconscious crew of the Nostromo -spacecraft to investigate the case, hoping to use the Xenomorph as a biowapon.
The Alien TV series will show the start of the company while it is struggling to beat its rivals in the race to create the Android life. How it will be connected to the Xenomorph is so far unknown.
In 2022 Noah Hawley unveiled in 2022, Noah Hawley, his view of the series:
It was played on earth of the future. At the moment I describe that as Edison versus Westinghouse versus Tesla. Someone is going to monopolize electricity. We just don’t know what it is.
In the films we have this Weyland-Yutani Corporation, which clearly also develops artificial intelligence, what if there are other companies that try to look at immortality in a different way, with cyborg improvements or Transhuman downloads? Which of those technologies will win? It is ultimately a classic science fiction question: does humanity deserve to survive?
John Landgraf, FX CEO, recently told Deadline, that the show will serve as a “big imaginative reinvest” of the Alien franchise, similar to Hawley’s work with the Fargo series.
Noah has an incredible ability to find both a way to be faithful and to show faithful to an original creation, such as the Coen Brothers or the film by Ridley Scott and the sequel aliens of James Cameron, but also to bring something new that represents both an expansion and a reinforcement of a franchise at the same time. He did a masterful job at Alien as he did with Fargo. There are some big surprises in store for the public.
(…) Putting it on earth is really interesting. We have to think about the future of the planet in terms of the environment, administration, technology and a version of the planet creating and designing in the future … Noah wants to do that in a distinctive and original way.
Ellen Ripley, as well as the other characters from other episodes of the franchise, will not be part of the series.

Who is Alien’s cast: Earth?
Sydney ChandlerFrom whom you may know, don’t worry, darling, gun and sugar, will portray the protagonist of the show. According to the Showrunner Noah Hawley, she will play Wendy, who “is a hybrid, a meta-person who has the brain and consciousness of a child, but the body of an adult.”
