Police hunt for crew responsible for 15 robberies and carjackings of pedestrians, couriers and Uber drivers

CHICAGO – Police are looking for a group responsible for at least 15 robberies and carjackings in Auburn Gresham. The group seems willing to rob just about anyone, robbing people on the street, robbing couriers and carjacking Uber drivers in a small corner of the neighborhood.

Police say two members of the crew, one wearing shorts and shoes and the other wearing a bathrobe, robbed a victim in the 1600 block of West 82nd Street on October 24 around 5:30 p.m. Chicago police released a video linked to that robbery in hopes someone would recognize them. Watch:

CPD says the group committed another robbery on the same block about 12 hours earlier and on July 24.

They walk up to the victims, usually show a small firearm and demand wallets and telephones, according to the police. However, they also rob couriers who approach homes to make deliveries. And police believe they also ordered Uber rides, only to beat up the drivers and take their cars at gunpoint.

In addition to the robberies on 82nd Street, police believe the group struck at the following locations:

  • September 22 at 3 p.m

8200 block of South Ashland

  • July 31 at 2 p.m
  • September 27 at 4:00 PM
  • October 10 at 12 noon
  • October 21 at 1:30 PM
