CHICAGO – A man accused of robbing a woman, according to the CTA, is so familiar with Chicago police that one of them recognized him on video of the crime and still had his phone number, making it easy to contact and arrange his surrender.
Zander Glass, 21, is on probation for a CTA-related crime, is on pretrial release for another CTA-related crime, and is now being held as a security risk for yet another transit crime.
A 28-year-old woman told police that two people confronted her on the Orange Line near Pulaski on Oct. 30 and ripped her purse off her neck, according to a CPD report.
An officer recognized Glass on surveillance footage and called him, asking him to come by the Central (1st) District station in the South Loop. Police arrested Glass when he walked into the station around 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Last September, Glass made headlines when prosecutors accused him of smashing more than 40 windows on CTA train cars in July and August 2023. He quickly reached an agreement with prosecutors and pleaded guilty April 30 to one count of criminal damage in exchange for 30 months of probation.
However, just six weeks later, he was arrested again at the Roosevelt CTA station for allegedly throwing a glass bottle and hitting a transit security guard in the forehead. Despite being on probation at the time, he was released pending trial on charges of aggravated battery on a transit worker.
However, things are different in the robbery case. Judge Antara Rivera ordered him held pending trial.
