CHICAGO – A robbery and carjacking team armed with a knife attacked five victims, including a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier, during an hours-long attack in Englewood and Bridgeport, according to Chicago police.
CPD said two or three robbers took part in each robbery, starting around 11:20 a.m. in the 6700 block of South Throop. The victim was parked near Ogden Park when two men, one displaying a knife, knocked on his window, according to a police report. He got out of his brown Honda Civic and the men drove away.
The mail carrier was attacked in the 6900 block of South Justine shortly after 2 p.m. They reported that three robbers traveling in a tan car, possibly a Honda Civic, displayed a knife and took their mailbag and wallet.
About two hours later, the team carjacked a red Subaru Forester in the 900 block of West 35th Street. Three men armed with a large knife forced the driver out and then ran in his SUV onto the Dan Ryan Expressway.
Another robbery, again involving three men allegedly armed with a butcher knife, occurred in the 5400 block of South Peoria at 6:48 p.m.
Finally, shortly before 7 p.m., the team carjacked a black Chevy Tahoe with a knife in the 5500 block of South Wells. A witness said the crew may have arrived in a beige or tan Honda Civic. According to CPD records, police found the Tahoe abandoned near Peoria and 68th Street around 7:15 p.m.
Police described the suspects as black men wearing hoodies and ski masks. A black woman was involved in one of the crimes, according to an alert from the CPD community.
Some reports described one of the robbers as being 6 feet 6 inches tall and about 200 pounds. He was usually seen with the knife. Another robber is said to be 6 feet tall and heavily built.
