CHICAGO – Prosecutors have accused a man of sexually assaulting a woman more than 80 years old after following her to a Lakeview retirement home.
According to Chicago police, it happened on the evening of October 15 in the 1500 block of West Belmont.
The victim, who suffers from dementia, stepped outside to smoke and was returning to her unit when Patrick Somerville, 42, slipped through the door behind her, according to a detention request. To protect her privacy, we do not provide the woman’s exact age.
Somerville followed the woman to her home and sat on her couch, the petition said. When she realized he was there, she opened the door and ordered him to leave.
Prosecutors said Somerville walked to the door with his pants down and ordered the woman to perform a sex act. He kissed her shoulder, grabbed her body and tried to touch her private area over her clothing, the petition said.
Video showed Somerville following the woman to her apartment, the petition said, adding that the victim can be heard telling someone to “go away, leave.”
After police arrested Somerville, he admitted he was in the building and claimed he and the woman were “having some fun together,” according to the petition.
Judge Antara Rivera arrested Somerville at the state’s request.
