A Chile man shot his girlfriend and two children — killing one of the victims — in Westchester County, sparking a manhunt that forced a school district to close before he was captured Tuesday, officials said.
Fernando Jimenez, 40, allegedly shot the trio — his girlfriend and two boys, ages 14 and 16 — in a townhouse in an apartment complex near Crossroads Plaza on Route 6 in Somers Monday around 11:30 p.m. according to law enforcement sources and ABC 7.
Authorities rushed two of the victims to Westchester Medical Center and took the third to New York Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital, the station said. One of the victims has died, sources say.
Jimenez fled the scene and New York State Police issued a warrant for Westchester County, forcing the Putnam Valley School District to close Tuesday while officers searched for the trigger-happy killer, a Chilean national, sources said.
According to sources and reports, police arrested the suspect around 11 a.m. Tuesday at a local deli that he had just broken into.
