Accused sex trafficker Alon Alexander will remain behind bars as he faces gang rape and other charges after a judge deemed the once high-flying real estate mogul a flight risk.
Alexander, who faces sex trafficking and gang rape charges in Florida along with twin brother Oren, was a risky bet for release because of his ties to Israel, where his parents are from and where his wife currently lives. the Miami Herald reported.
Judge Eduardo Sanchez ruled on Friday on the 37-year-old’s bid to be released on bail.
His twin brother Oren is scheduled for his own bail hearing on Tuesday, while the twins’ older brother Tal was denied bond in December.
The wealthy Alexander family of Miami had proposed using “any amount” of money above $100 million to get the brothers out of jail, including offering the twins to live with their parents or in apartments with private security.
The twins are a danger to the community, prosecutors have maintained Herald reported.
Another magistrate judge, Lisette Reid, last month denied a $115 million bond request by Tal Alexander, 38, who is charged in connection with the twins in a conspiracy to commit sex trafficking and related rapes in New York, Miami Beach and elsewhere between 2010 and 2012. places. places.
If convicted, the three brothers face life in prison.
Oren and Tal are high-profile luxury real estate agents in New York City and Miami Beach.
Alon, who has a law degree, has worked for Kent, the family’s Miami-based security firm.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Espinosa said there were no conditions “really sufficient” to ensure the safety of the community if the brothers were released.
The brothers, accused of gang-raping women since high school, had “acted with impunity their entire lives,” Espinosa said.
The FBI said it has identified and interviewed “approximately 42” victims since the investigation began in June. Dozens of others have come forward since the brothers’ arrest last month, Espinosa told the judge.
“That case just gets stronger and stronger as time goes on,” she said.
