It doesn’t matter where the card leads you, a road trip usually evokes some important elements that make it unique from a different type of journey. Think of quirky attractions along the road, dinners, spontaneous snack stops, picturesque views, national parks – the list continues!

For Adrienna MatzegegegSummer -time travel inspire a new series of Punch Needle Embroidery (earlier) in a collection entitled The picturesque routenow available via Tacit collective.

“Lick-a-Treat”

The artist established in Toronto combines her interests in photography, textiles and design to create lively, narrative embroidery compositions. “By reducing the subject in her work to simplified colors, shapes and fragments, she investigates how we remind memories, with a specific interest in travel destinations and souvenirs,” says a gallery statement.

In works like ‘Catch of the Day’, Matzegeg evokes the timeless experience of a pint brew and a basket with freshly battered fish. “Lighthouse Route” records a picturesque additional board, and in “The Afterglow”, a plate from the supermarket advertises summer vacation -not such as ice cream cones and pizza at the slice.

Pieces in The picturesque route Hint to simple pleasures, short breaks and the fading daylight and evokes “intermediate” experiences that may just seem enough at the moment, but lingers in memory long after the summer ends.
