Amazon has announced that it will start with testing AI -Nasynchronization to licensed content that is usually not dubbed.
The new dubs that are being tested are not fully produced by AI. Human translators are also involved in the process to ensure that the dubs are of a certain quality.
Initially, the AI dubs will only be available in English and Spanish for 12 films and series, including El Cid: La Leyenda, Mi Mamá Lora and Long Lost.
Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios Chief Technology Officer Raf Soltanovich gave the following quote on the new position:
“With Prime Video we believe in improving the experiences of customers with practical and useful AI innovations … We are happy to make shows and films more accessible and entertaining.”
Traditionally, dubbing is done by voice actors – as seen in other popular global series such as Squid Game. This step from Amazon means a shift to AI, something that is becoming increasingly popular and controversial.
The function can be switched on by navigating to the language under accounts and settings on PC, under my things on the smartphone app or in the Prime Video Settings section in the TV app.
