On view at The Print Center until July 25, the exhibition highlights the power of print as a medium for expressing political ideals and pressing social concerns.
The Print Center of Philadelphia presents America Today: Voices in Contemporary Printfeaturing artists harnessing the power of printmaking to amplify their voices and engage directly with the issues shaping American society.
On the occasion of the country’s 250th anniversary, amid the current tumultuous political climate, artists are readily contending with the fundamental principles of the common good, civil rights, social justice, and political engagement. Individual prints reference a range of subjects – community histories, political actions, systemic violence and cultural heritage – in a wide variety of styles. They make a crucial contribution to conversations about our collective past, present and future.
The prints presented come from six printmaking studios, which are not only places of creation, but also important meeting places. These studios are unique among all people in the US in their commitment to building communities and supporting artists as outspoken advocates for their own realities.
